About Us

Medusa is a new independent press based in the Czech Republic with a focus on horror, the fantastique and weird fiction, especially the kind that explores sexuality, including its darker sides, and other profoundly human issues. Our aim is to give a voice to victims and survivors (before the mythical Medusa became a feared monster, she was an innocent girl abused by stronger powers). A raw lyricism, a brutal openness and masterful story-telling – that's what we want to offer you in carefully selected works from some of the world's best authors.

Medusa is run by translator Roman Tilcer. Roman has been translating fiction since 2008, when he was awarded 3rd place in the Jiří Levý Translation Contest. In his work for other Czech publishers, he has translated fiction by authors like N. K. Jemisin, Joe Abercrombie, Kevin Hearne and David Gemmell. A list of his published translations can be found in his CV alongside other information in regards to Roman's work and background in the publishing industry.
